Lottery tickets NOT appropriate holiday gifts for minors

Considering scratch or lotto tickets as the perfect holiday gift or stocking stuffer for that someone special? If that person is under the age of 18, the South Dakota Lottery and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) remind you that lotto or scratch tickets are not the appropriate gift for them. You must be 18 years old or older to play such games in South Dakota. The South Dakota Lottery is pleased to once again participate in the NCPG's annual campaign against purchasing lottery tickets as holiday gifts for children. For more information about the 2014 Holiday Campaign, visit the NCPG website. Give responsibly this holiday season - lottery tickets aren't child's play.

A $15,000 top prize is hiding somewhere in South Dakota...

One top prize remains to be won in the 5X the Money - 480 scratch ticket game and we're answering your calls on where to find tickets. Check out this week's list of retailers who still have tickets available. It's a good idea to call ahead to make sure they're not sold out before you get there and remember, the winning ticket may have already been sold and not claimed yet, or bought and lost. Happy hunting!

Want to know if you have a winning scratch ticket?

Our tickets feature a Failsafe barcode under the latex coating below the play area. Carefully scratch off the latex to reveal that barcode. Then take your ticket to your favorite lottery retailer and scan the barcode yourself in the ticket checker. You'll find out instantly if you're a winner! Winning tickets worth $100 or less can be presented to any lottery retailer for payment. Winning tickets of $101 or more must be redeemed at one of our validation centers in Pierre, Rapid City or Sioux Falls.
