South Dakota Nets $250,000, $10,000 Winners

For Immediate Release: 4/2/2012

(Pierre) – A ticket sold in Sioux Falls was one number away from winning the record-breaking $640 million Mega Millions jackpot in the March 30, 2012 drawing.

The ticket holder matched all five white ball numbers but missed the Mega Ball to win the $250,000 second prize. The winning numbers for the March 30, 2012 drawing are 2, 4, 23, 38 and 46; the Mega Ball is 23 and the Megaplier is 3. The odds of winning the game’s $250,000 second prize are 1:3,904,701. According to the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), 158 tickets worth $250,000 were sold nationwide.

Three tickets, one each in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland, had all five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball, meaning the $640 million jackpot will be split three ways.

In addition to the $250,000 second prize, South Dakota also had three $10,000 third prize winners. Tickets matching four of five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball were sold in Custer, North Sioux City and Redfield. The odds of winning $10,000 playing Mega Millions are 1:689,065.

All winning ticket holders are advised to sign the back of their tickets immediately, put them in a safe place, and contact the Rapid City Lottery office at 605-394-5106, the Sioux Falls Lottery office at 605-367-5840, or the Pierre Lottery office at 605-773-5770 to make arrangements to validate their tickets and claim the prizes. Winners have 180 days to claim their winnings.

Mega Millions is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The March 30, 2011 jackpot was the largest jackpot in lottery history and was the result of 18 drawings without a winner. The jackpot currently sits at $12 million for the next drawing on Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
